| | Just the little voices in my head | ] | Hey there! I hope everything is going well in your necks of the vast woods. I'm doing okay here. Work's still continuing. Church is going well; I'm my church's sponsor for a pre-teen camp that will happen in June. I just got my info today, and I think there are 6 or 7 interested. It should be fun.
I just bought the film I Never Sang for My Father, and it is very good. And I'm lucky to have found it for a good deal on EBay, or I would have had to pay at least $40 if I wanted to have it for when I teach it. Let's see, what else...I got my hair cut yesterday, and it's the shortest that I've had it since I was about 7 or 8 years old. I like it, though; it looks good on me, and it's easy to style--just let it air-dry and go! Gotta love something like that.
Other than that, not a whole lot going on. Check ya later! |

One of her incision areas was looking pretty bad; the surgery doc told her to wash the area with antibacterial soap and put Neosporin on it. Well, the stuff spread, and she was told to get in the hospital. She has to stay overnight, but we don't know what the deal is. I know she's getting sick and tired of being sick, and I really hope that she heals.
I just found out a real coincidence. A friend of mine in California said that the woman who proofreads his college's paper is an English major who wants to teach high school; the strange part is that we share the same first and last name. Thank goodness I got to putting my middle initial in my signature.

Well, my grandmother did fine as far as the surgery goes, but she's had a few bad nausea spells. I had to take her to the emergency room last night and didn't get home until after 11 p.m. I just pray that everything is okay. I was glad that I had fairly easy classes today, because I was not only tired but worried. I got off work early to pick her up, but when I got home, she had already left with my grandfather. Oh well.
I'm very excited for my school's one-act play team--they advanced to the next level of competition!! I know they were excited, because they beat out a team that is known for their drama department. They have their next competition this Thursday, and I hope they do well.
Well, I better get going--I've got to check my email and get my notes for Julius Caesar ready so I can teach tomorrow. Take care! |

Wow, what a day! It was my first day back from Spring Break, and my grandmother had gall bladder surgery. After having my long day (I've got two freshmen classes), I drove to the hospital and stayed there until 8:30. I've still got papers to grade, which is going to take me awhile, so I don't think I'm going to get much sleep, but it's okay.
My grandmother is recovering well. She was able to eat solid food for dinner, and she's getting around pretty well for someone who had 4 incisions made in her torso. Of course, she's a feisty old lady.
Other than that, nothing much else going on here. My sophomores are dressing up in togas for extra credit tomorrow, so I need to get my camera ready. My English II classes are starting in on Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, and my English I class is doing Romeo and Juliet, so I'm being enundated with Shakespeare this six weeks. But I'm cool with that, because I'm a big fan of the Bard, and I have come to appreciate him even more as I grow older. Unfortunately, it's hard for kids to get into it, and in order to grab their attention, I need to bring out some of the more sexual aspects of the literature and still manage to keep it clean. It seems that most of my students's hormones are berserk. I'm glad I was never like that in high school!!!
Well, I better get to grading. I hope all that are reading this are doing just fine.
P.S. How about that American Idol controversy with Mario Vasquez stepping out of the competition?! I have believed ever since last season that the show is rigged, and I pegged him to be the winner this season--after all, we've had a white female, black male, black female, so they needed a Hispanic male to win this time. He says he dropped out because of family problems, his family says there are no problems. I bet he was told that he would win the competition, and he decided to drop out. But that's my theory. |

Yeah, I know, long time no type! Well, I've been busy. Last fall I did my student teaching and then graduated Cum Laude in December--woo-hoo!! Now I'm teaching English I and II at my old high school. I have my up days and down days. I have found that being one of the "honors kids" back in high school proves as a disadvantage when teaching regular students. But God is getting me through this, and I'm hanging in there.
Personally, life's going fairly well. I'm teaching a 3rd and 4th grade Sunday School class. Romantically, things have been strange. Things got weird between myself and a guy that I know, but he has shown that he was never truly interested in me--he just wanted someone to "hold him over" until he found another girl, which can really make a person feel like crap. But I thank God for showing me what he's really like, because this guy is ending up being like another version of an ex. Speaking of exes, I ran into mine while working. He's subbing in the school district that I work for, and he stopped by one day to say he was proud of me and such. It was weird, but it went better than I could ever expect.
Well, I better let you go. I'm going to enjoy my spring break and read a little bit. BTW, if you read the Left Behind series, check out the latest installment: The Rising. It's one of my favorites from the series. I finished it in 2 days, staying up until 2 in the morning to finish it! Great stuff! |

You are more reserved than other bombshells, and that shows in your gentle, graceful nature. You like doing things for other people and love volunteering for your favorite charity. Yours is a rare gift in this day and age. You don't need to show a lot of skin to be sexy, all you need is your eyes. To see Audrey at the top of her game watch the movie "Breakfast at Tiffanys".

Belief in Deity There is a Trinity of the Father (God), the Son (Christ), and the Holy Spirit that comprises one God Almighty. God is personal and incorporeal. |
| • |
Incarnations Jesus Christ is God's only incarnation. God is manifest within all as the light. Jesus possessed the light to the highest degree and is "the Light" within. |
| • |
Origin of Universe and Life The most orthodox Quakers hold to the authority of the Bible, and the book of Genesis--that God created all in less than seven days and less that 10,000 years ago. But many would maintain that a biblical "day" is not a literal 24 hours. |
| • |
After Death Most orthodox Quakers believe in direct reward and punishment, heaven and hell, the second coming of Christ, and resurrection of the dead (similar to conservative Christian view). |
| • |
Why Evil? Some Orthodox Quakers adhere to similar beliefs as conservative Christians--belief in original sin and Satan. Many believe that lack of awareness of God's divine light within, or rebellion against it, is the cause of wrongdoing, and that alienation from God leaves one vulnerable to temptation or Satan. |
| • |
Salvation Some Friends (the formal name of the group) churches include rites of baptism and communion, but sacraments to God are most often considered to arise from inward experiences, a personal encounter with God, rather than church ritual. Salvation is found internally through union with Christ, the divine Light within all. Many Quaker churches, e.g. evangelical, believe similarly to Conservative Protestant, that salvation is a free gift from God, with faith, independent of good works. Yet moral behavior and good works are viewed as essential to showing faith and obedience to God. Good works, such as humanitarian service, social justice, and peace efforts, are an expression of Christian love. Simplicity and humility are viewed as essential to living a Christian life. |
| • |
Undeserved Suffering The most orthodox Quakers maintain that Satan causes suffering. Suffering is allowed by God as part of His divine will and plan. Quakers focus on reducing human suffering, especially that caused by social injustice or violence. |
| • |
Contemporary Issues Social-betterment programs and nonviolence are fundamental to Quakerism. Some Orthodox Quaker churches are very accepting of homosexuality, and others condemn it as contrary to God's will. |

Just suffice it to say that I was going through something that was affecting my mood. For the rest of my post, just scroll down until you can return to the post. Trust me, you'll know when it's safe.
Okay, for those who wish to bear through my TMI explanation, here goes. In case you haven't noticed, at least once a month I go a little weird. Well, that's me PMSing, and when I'm going through that, I'm usually one of three moods: happy, depressed, or b*tchy. That's just the way it is. Usually I go through this about a week before my time of month, but this month it was way late--it started the night before my period, so instead of getting out about a week before hand, I'm sorta PMSing while I'm going through the M. So, yeah, that constitutes for my mood yesterday.
OKAY, YOU CAN RETURN TO THE REGULAR POST
Obviously I'm feeling much better today. Handbell choir is having their "concert" tonight, so it should be fun. Yay! But it's going to be sad, because it just signifies another end to a part of my on-campus living experience. My small group is having a bit of a "formal" Wednesday, where we're going to dress up and have a nice dinner with lots of candles and nice music and such. I already know I'm going to cry.
As far as finals are concerned, to my knowledge I'm taking three, but I'll find out this coming week if I'll have two of those three or not. After this semester, it'll be nice to have only one final. Plus it'll give me time to pack.
Well, I'm going to take a quick quiz that I found in my friend's lj, then I'm going to get back to reading A Passage to India like I'm supposed to. |

So, what's been going on in the life of me? A lot, but it's just school stuff. I had a qualifying exam for the TExES Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities 8-12 (that's the certification exam for teachers here in Texas) this morning, and I think okay today. They're supposed to have the results posted by 5 today, so maybe I'll be back on later with my results.
What else, well, after I took the test I went to the computer lab and created the Powerpoint presentation for my suicide prevention presentation on Wednesday, and I actually finished it. I was looking up some graphics on Google for my presentation, and some of that stuff was really disturbing! Quite graphic, and no, I didn't use any of the graphic ones for my slide show. It's bad enough that mine's going to be the depressing one of the bunch. ::lol::
And either later on this afternoon or sometime tomorrow I'm going to stop by a bookstore and look at their graduation packages, so it should be fun. I'm getting very excited about the big day. Well, I'm going to relax my brain a bit. Have an awesome day! :) |

In the first class, I was really nervous, and we ended up running out of time, so I didn't do my closing activity. Then in the second and third classes I taught in, I got through it fairly quickly. My mentor teacher had to do an evaluation on me, and I got 44 points out of a possible 50 points. Here is what my teacher had to say:
Evidence of thorough lesson design/plan~~exemplary; good organization Measurable and appropriate objective(s)~~strong Effective introduction and lesson sequence~~exemplary Clarity and effectiveness of presentation~~strong Evidence of variety in learning strategies~~strong Effective use of instructional resources~~strong Effective classroom management techniques~~strong; good, passing the ball involves everyone (I passed a ball around to pick readers for the text) Effective use of checking for understanding~~exemplary; checked constantly Focused review of objective(s)~~strong Effective use of positive reinforcement~~exemplary Comments~~Good opening activity. Included vocabulary, stopped too frequently, VERY GOOD LESSON!

Well, I'm feeling better--thanks so much Rox and Josh! Y'all rock! Anyway, nothing much has happened. I've been busy with school; I'm nervous because I'm teaching Friday. ::eek:: But it's okay, I know I'll be okay. God's going to be with me and taking care of me. I am teaching Jonathan Swift's "A Modest Proposal," so that should be fun, especially teaching a class that goes to lunch right after. ::lol:: Am I evil? No, but slightly sadistic maybe. And then Monday I teach again, but that time it will be John Keat's poem "La Belle Dame Sans Merci." And then I'm through with my field experiences.
I presented my short story to my Advanced Writing class yesterday, and thankfully things went smoothly. I didn't know how it would be taken because it's a Christian story, and to tell you the truth, I thought the prof would really go down on the piece because most of his works dealing with Christianity are mocking it. And really the only thing that had been said was from the class as a whole, and that was that I needed to add more physical description. So I can deal with that. :)
Finally reconnected with my friend Ashley from my 2002 mission trip; she's doing really well it seems. She's graduating with her associate's degree this May and transferring to another university. Keith, her fiance, moved down to Mission, where she lives, and they will be getting married down there in September. I won't be able to make, but I hope to at least send a card or something.
On the news of another friend's wedding, it looks like I'll be able to participate in all the festivities of Katrina's wedding. It looks like I won't need to be on campus until a week or two after the wedding will take place, so I'm quite happy.
Well, small group is tonight as well as my small group's softball game, so I better get going. But before I go, I've got to stick a tape in to record Smallville and Angel tonight. It's about dag time for some new eps, and thank goodness, there will be tonight!!!!! |
